This year's Roswell Outdoor Academy ended today with a skills competition on some of the things the kids learned - flycasting, air rifle, archery, turkey calling, baitcasting and a trivia contest. Lots of great prizes won and a venison slider cookout to wrap things up. Thanks to everyone for another great year! Now go get those kids outdoors!

A huge Day Four of the Roswell Outdoor Academy learning advanced bass fishing techniques from the Six Mile Bass Club and all about hunting wild turkeys, including learning how to call. These kids can yelp, purr, cluck and gobble with the best! Tomorrow's final day is a skills competition with prizes and a wild game cookout. No wonder this is my favorite week of the year!

Day Three of the Roswell Outdoor Academy had the kids back on the rifle range with a gun safety class taught by Officer Mark Puig of the Georgia DNR. Then, 3D archery shooting including how to set up a bow for hunting and how to place shots ethically on game. Then, Hank Forester from the Quality Deer Management Association taught them all about whitetail behavior - and gave them each a grunt call to entertain their parents tonight!

Day Two of Roswell Outdoor Academy had the kids learning about tools and technology for hunting - from making their own snare traps and shooting blowdarts, to then learning how to use Google Earth and other aps to plan a back country adventure on a smartphone! They got hands-on archery and flyfishing lessons, too. A pretty cool day at camp for our 40 future hunters and fishers!

Day One of the 2016 Roswell Outdoor Academy was awesome!  The 40 campers worked on the air rifle range learning proper shooting and gun safety techniques.  Then, they met the Buford Trout Hatchery truck and stocked over 800 trout into the Chattahoochee River!  Very cool.  They also got an animal ID and conservation class from Officer Mark of the Georgia DNR.  What are other kids doing at camp this week!?
